Resource description
The Socially Assistive Robotics (SAR) Intervention Framework utilizes robots to provide personalized support and encouragement to children with IDDs. These robots are designed to engage in social interactions that promote learning and development, offering assistance in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, and social skills. By adapting to individual needs, SAR interventions aim to enhance the educational experience and facilitate the achievement of specific developmental goals.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
In a classroom setting, a socially assistive robot interacts with a child during a learning activity, providing prompts and feedback to encourage participation. For example, during a reading exercise, the robot may ask questions about the story, prompting the child to think critically and express their thoughts. The robot's consistent and patient interaction helps build the child's confidence and engagement over time.
