STEAM Approach

Typology
Methodological
Resource description
The STEAM Approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) is a multidisciplinary framework that integrates creativity and problem-solving into educational contexts. This approach is particularly effective in addressing the diverse needs of students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) or Special Educational Needs (SEN). By combining socio-pedagogical and technological methodologies, the STEAM framework ensures inclusive participation, skill-building, and personalized learning experiences.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
In a vocational training setting, students design a product using engineering principles while incorporating artistic elements for decoration. For instance, they may construct a simple mechanical device and customize its appearance. Educators provide tailored guidance, ensuring tasks align with each student's abilities.

In a science lesson on ecosystems, students use a VR application to explore habitats and interact with virtual animals. This immersive experience allows students with autism to engage in learning without the stress of sensory overload from real-world environments.
