Teachers and Parents Collaboration

Typology
Methodological
Resource description
Teachers and parents collaboration is a methodological approach that emphasizes the partnership between educators and families to support the learning and development of students with special educational needs (SEN). This strategy is rooted in shared responsibilities, open communication, and the co-creation of individualized learning plans tailored to the unique strengths and challenges of each student. By fostering this collaboration, both parties contribute to the academic, social, and emotional growth of the child in a consistent and coordinated manner.

Key components of this approach include:

Shared Goals: Establishing clear objectives for the student's progress that align with their individual needs.
Open Communication: Maintaining regular, bidirectional communication between teachers and parents through meetings, progress reports, or digital tools.
Parental Involvement: Encouraging parents to actively participate in educational activities, both at school and at home.
Teacher Guidance: Providing parents with resources, strategies, and support to reinforce learning and behavior management at home.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
In a classroom setting, teachers collaborate with parents to design a personalized activity plan for a student with autism. For example, the teacher might suggest interactive storytelling sessions to improve communication skills. Parents then implement this activity at home, while providing feedback to the teacher on the student's progress. The teacher adjusts classroom activities based on this feedback, creating a consistent learning experience across environments.
