Shape Robotics

Resource description
Resource description: Shape Robotics offers the Fable robot, an easy-to-use modular robotic system designed to inspire creativity and innovation to students. The Fable system allows users to build custom robots by combining different modules, such as sensors, actuators, and connectors. This hands-on approach encourages students to experiment with design and engineering concepts while learning how to program their creations using a simple, block-based coding platform. The Fable robot can be used in a variety of educational settings, from primary to high school, making it suitable for teaching subjects like, design and technology, and computer science. The system supports both beginner and advanced learners, offering a scalable learning experience.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
It can be appied in Robot treatments for children with autism.

A Learning Objective with which it could fit:
Objective: To design, build, and program a functional robot to complete specific tasks.
Activity: Students can use Fable modules to construct a robot capable of performing a predefined task, such as sorting objects by color or navigating an obstacle course, fostering creativity and practical application of engineering principles.
Objective: To understand the iterative design process and the importance of testing and refinement in engineering.
Activity: In small groups, students will design and build a robot prototype, test its functionality, identify problems, and iteratively improve their design based on test results, highlighting the real-world application of STEM concepts.
