Sphero

Resource description
Sphero is a spherical, app-enabled robot that offers a dynamic way to learn how to program robotics. Equipped with a variety of sensors, LEDs, and a durable shell, Sphero can be programmed to roll, spin, and navigate through complex mazes and obstacle courses using the Sphero Edu app. The app supports both block-based coding (suitable for beginners) and JavaScript (for more advanced students), making it a versatile tool for a wide range of educational levels. Sphero's interactive nature and the availability of numerous pre-designed activities and lesson plans make it an excellent resource for teaching STEM subjects, encouraging creativity, and enhancing problem-solving skills through hands-on learning.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
It can be applied in Robot treatments for children with autism

A Learning Objective with which it could fit:
Objective: To develop and implement algorithms to control a robot.
Activity: Students will use block-based coding to program Sphero to navigate a maze, demonstrating their understanding of sequence, loops, and conditional statements.
Objective: To understand the principles of sensors and their applications in robotics.
Activity: Through experimentation, students will program Sphero to respond to several sensor inputs, such as detecting collisions or following a light source, enhancing their knowledge of how sensors are used in real-world applications.
