Resource description
The Robot-Assisted Social Stories (RASS) Method combines the use of social robots with personalized social narratives to teach appropriate social behaviors to children with IDDs. Social stories are tailored to individual needs and are presented by robots in an engaging manner, enhancing understanding and retention. This method leverages the consistency and predictability of robots to provide clear examples of social interactions, aiding in the development of social communication skills.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
A humanoid robot presents a social story to a child with IDD about initiating a conversation with a classmate. The robot uses simple language and gestures to depict the scenario, demonstrating appropriate behaviors such as greeting, asking questions, and taking turns speaking. The child then practices the scenario with the robot, receiving immediate feedback, which helps in generalizing the learned skills to real-life interactions.
