Resource description
The Robot-Assisted Language Learning (RALL) Method integrates humanoid robots into language instruction for children with IDDs. These robots engage students through interactive dialogues, storytelling, and language games, providing a consistent and patient platform for practicing language skills. The method aims to enhance vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation, and conversational abilities by offering personalized and adaptive language exercises.
Sample of use in education with students with IDD
In a classroom setting, a humanoid robot conducts a language session where it introduces new vocabulary words related to daily activities. The robot uses gestures and visual aids to illustrate each word, then engages students in a call-and-response exercise to practice pronunciation. Students are encouraged to use the new vocabulary in simple sentences, with the robot providing corrective feedback and positive reinforcement.
